My Beauty, My Story

by Emre K., 19, Turkey

I used to think beauty was something you’re born with or without. Growing up in Istanbul, I often felt caught between traditional values and modern ideals. The media’s portrayal of beauty sometimes made me doubt myself, especially with my thick eyebrows, olive skin, and curly hair.

But recently, I started to see beauty differently. It’s not just about looks—it’s about the stories we carry, the culture we represent, and how we carry ourselves. My features tell the history of my family and my city, and that makes me proud.

I enjoy using makeup to enhance my natural appearance without trying to change who I am. I love experimenting with rich colors inspired by Turkish art and landscapes, blending old and new styles.

To me, “own beauty” means embracing my identity fully and expressing it honestly. It’s about confidence, respect, and love for oneself.

I want to encourage others to find strength in their own stories and redefine beauty on their own terms.
