Finding Beauty in Freedom

Growing up in Madrid, I’ve always admired the boldness of Spanish culture—flamenco, vibrant festivals, and passionate conversations. But when it came to beauty, I struggled. The media often showed tall, thin models with flawless skin, which made me feel I didn’t fit in. I have freckles, curly hair, and a body that’s more Mediterranean than runway-ready. For a while, I tried to change myself to match those ideals.
University changed my perspective. I studied art and learned that beauty isn’t a fixed standard but a form of expression. I realized my freckles are like little constellations, my curls hold energy, and my body carries my history and joy. I started to see beauty as freedom—to wear what I want, move how I feel, and be unapologetically myself.
Makeup became a way to highlight, not hide. I play with bright colors inspired by Spanish art and nature—reds like the poppies in spring, golds like the sun on the Mediterranean coast. But most importantly, I use makeup to celebrate my identity, not erase it.
My own beauty is about confidence and connection. It’s in the warmth I share with friends, the laughter I bring to family dinners, and the way I dance to my favorite songs. It’s imperfect and ever-changing, and that’s what makes it real.
I hope more young people in Spain realize that beauty isn’t about fitting in—it’s about standing out, being authentic, and finding joy in your own skin. Because when you love yourself, you inspire others to do the same.
